What

Coffee Tab aims to inspire people to improve their quality of life by offering them a superior coffee experience. Come find a welcoming environment where you can savor a premium specialty coffee while also making a positive impact on the lives of underserved students.

How

As a fully-operating coffee shop, we employ eligible students through our mentorship program.

Our students are more than just a statistic: “Underserved” youth often face the struggles of starvation or homelessness.

Coffee Tab wants to do its part to reduce the cycles of poverty and marginalization by training students with employable skills, access to community, and a safe space to spend their time.

Who

Coffee Tab will train students who are referred to us by school counselors, social workers, or parole officers, and affiliate non-profit organizations.

Method

Students enrolled in our mentorship program will receive on-site barista and business management training, career support, and resume and interview preparation.

Why

From our Founder: Jonathan Tran

Starting a non-profit has always been a goal of mine. It is now becoming a reality thanks to one of my former professors, Cheryl Crawford at Azusa Pacific University.

Cheryl was one of my undergraduate professors who challenged, pushed, and encouraged me to think critically, pursue ministry, and live the best life possible. She was an example of a mentor who impacted her students’ lives in such a positive way. Unfortunately, Cheryl passed away in 2019 and had once pursued starting a coffee shop herself. I think she would be very excited to know that I am creating a mentorship program that utilizes specialty coffee to encourage life change.

In her will, Cheryl left some money to different people and charities. One of her friends was compelled to invest in Cheryl’s former students and other causes dear to Cheryl’s heart. This includes the beginnings of Coffee Tab.

Coffee Tab exists to encourage others to live a higher quality of life through a higher quality cup of coffee: The way Cheryl encouraged others and the way she enjoyed a cup of coffee.
